When you pick strawberries directly from the farm (which is common this time of year), bugs may be more common than when purchasing strawberries from stores. Strawberries purchased from the store have been cooled immediately after harvest so few bugs remain. Here is the proper way to handle your strawberries:
Always refrigerate your strawberries to 34 degrees Farenheight. Keep berries away from moisture . Don’t wash berries until just before use. Leave green caps on and wash berries with a gentle spray of cool water. After washing, remove the green caps from berries with a light twist or with the point of a paring knife.
