I have a husband and son who are very similar to yours and I feel your pain. I sat down with my husband and had a heart to heart. We agreed on what we wanted for our children. As an adult I can’t tell him what to eat. But I can discuss what I am comfortable having in our home and expect that to be respected. He is free to have all the junk he wants but, he is not free to bring it home. That has worked most of the time. As for my kids and myself we allow ourselves sweets, treats and junk foods one day a week and on special occasions (family birthdays and holidays). Once that habit is established it’s easy to say “Sure you can have that cookie— on Friday.
I did call a family meeting about healthy eating habits before doing all this and let people know what was coming down the pike. I also ask our pediatrician at our yearly visits to discuss healthy eating habits.]]>
