concerning fruits and veggies in ANY form being good for you. I have read that many dried fruits contain high levels of sugar which is bad for us. Is this true?
When fruits are dried, the water is removed, but everything else, including all of the sugar that was in the fresh fruit, remains. This makes dried fruit very sweet, but it contains the nutrients that were in the fresh fruit, so it is still good for us. Without the water, the serving size of dried fruit is half that of fresh, so eating ¼ cup of raisins is equivalent to eating ½ a cup of grapes. It is recommended to include dried fruits in your diet in moderation. Try including them in trail mixes, cereals or just by themselves as an on-the-go snack!
