Drinks like Fruit2O claim to give your body the nutrients of 2 servings of fruit in a bottle. Is this really a true equivalent?

The new Fruit2O Essentials water claims that the waters are fortified with nutrients that are equivalent to two servings of fruit. While this doesn’t mean that drinking a bottle of Fruit2O will count as two daily servings of fruit, it does mean, however, that the company has fortified its product with vitamins and minerals commonly found in fruits, such as vitamin C, E, or manganese, for example. However, that is only what this product is – a fortified water. Although this product may be a flavorful source of hydration, it is best to eat your fruits and vegetables in order to get all of the nutritional benefits that they have to offer, including vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. Other vitamin waters may also have up to 33 grams of sugar and 125 calories, which again provides another reason why it is best to obtain nutrients by eating fruits and vegetables.

  1. Fortified fruit or vegetable juices contain SOME of the nutrients contained in fruits and vegetables…mostly re-added as supplements as many of the original nutrients are often destroyed by pasteurization and other processing techniques.
