My husband and I travel in third world countries. We love the fresh fruits and veggies but have to be very careful about cleaning them. I usually wash them with soap and water, using a little scrub brush. I then soak them in about a quart of water with a tsp. of bleach for two to five minutes. Is this really necessary? If it is, is my cleaning method sufficient? Is there a better way to do it? Do you have any other suggestions regarding fresh food safety in less developed countries?

Kohlrabi (German Turnip) is a small cultivar of the cruciferous family (the same as cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, kale, collard greens and Brussels sprouts.)  Its taste and texture is similar to a broccoli stem or cabbage heart. Kohlrabi can be eaten raw as well as cooked.

how many times I can use the same oil for frying is it best to just use once knowing that one can’t detect any changes in taste if same oil was used over and over again.another question is frying fish can destroy omega-3f.a. what exactly the percentage is lost and what is the best temp for cooking fish in order not to destroy omega-3thanks

You can reuse oil several times, but food particles can build up so you want to strain it before reusing it. You may want to check out the aboutseafood.com about fish, we specialize in fruits and vegetables. Remember to eat plenty of non-fried fruits and vegetables!
