Antioxidants help to fight disease and also block  the free radicals in our bodies that can cause cancer.  It is very important to have a wide variety of antioxidants included in your diet, not just one.  Therefore, eating plenty of fruits and vegetables that come in a wide spectrum of colors would be most beneficial to your body.

 

Usually, about 5 broccoli florets equal a half cup of broccoli.  As for spinach, about a half cup of cooked, unpacked spinach equals a serving. Check out these 1/2 cup and 1 cup visuals to help in measuring other fruits and vegetables.

 

Many times, frozen baby onions are sold as a mixture with green peas in the freezer section.  If you are unable to find frozen baby onions, you may be able to find frozen shallots or give fresh baby onions a shot.

If the soy milk is not fortified with calcium, then yes, your child may need a calcium supplement.  Chicken and turkey are not good sources of calcium.  Try finding a soy milk that has added calcium and vitamin D.

Coumadin is a drug that helps prevent blood clots from forming in the body. Since Vitamin K works to form blood clots, Coumadin’s job is to decrease the activity of Vitamin K.  In order for Coumadin to work properly, the diet must have a consistent amount of Vitamin K each day.  If you were to have a sudden increase in Vitamin K in your diet, the drug would have a decreased effect on the body, and vice versa.
