I would like to know if someone is low on iron what would be the best way to get more iron in to the system that will get absorbed rather than taking iron pills. Tanky you
Meats and dark meat poultry are good sources of iron. In our Key Nutrients section, you can see vegetable foods that are high in iron. Absorption of iron from these foods can be enhanced by having them with a food that is high in Vitamin C. Some examples of combinations would be a vegetarian chili that has kidney beans and tomatoes or a spinach salad with mandarin orange sections. Some cereals and breads are fortified with iron – the nutrition label should indicate that a 1 ounce serving provides around 30- 45% or more of the requirement for iron.
