I’m using the “old exchange list” (which consist of rice and past=1/2 cup) in addition to the revised list. My food pattern is this; 6 proteins, 4 starches, 3 fruits, 2 veggies, 2 milks, 2 fats. Sometimes, I don’t eat the 4th starch above. I REPLACE it with a 4 oz apple? That’s what I am doing to continue having 1200 calories thru out the day. I’m sure that this is considered ok .I use the exchange system but I see that doing this is just about the same. Since Carbs are grouped differently. Let me know your thoughts thanks. It works for me. I’m not lacking my any carbs any more
Replacing one starch with an apple is fine. Adding more fruits and veggies, especially without anything added to them, is almost always good. It’s now recommended that we aim for more than 5 servings of fruits and veggies each day, but if your blood glucose is well controlled, I’d recommend that you keep eating the way you do.
