What fruits and vegetables are safe for people with diverticulitis?

Q. I have diverticulitis so what fruits and vegtables are safe to eat?

A. Fruits and vegetables are a great source of fiber which may be beneficial for preventing or managing diverticulosis . Fiber helps soften stools and move waste through the body to prevent buildup in the colon. To maximize fiber from fruits and vegetables, eat the skin or peel as well if it is edible. Some excellent sources of fiber rich foods include: pears, spinach, lima beans, lentils, and whole grains. However, if you are recovering from a recent flare up, consult with your doctor before increasing your fiber intake.
