What fruits and vegetables would be best for a diabetic who’s also had bariatric surgery?

Q. Which fruits and vegetables are best for a person that had bariatric surgery and is diabetic?

A. All fruits and vegetables can be worked into a meal plan for diabetes, but since they do contain carbohydrate, the portions need to be controlled. However, bariatric surgery requires eating soft fruit and vegetables (canned fruit, applesauce, mashed potatoes, etc.) until your body is able to tolerate increased fiber. I strongly suggest that you consult a registered dietitian or certified diabetes educator who can help design an appropriate meal plan based on your medical profile. Your physician may also be able to recommend someone to help you.
