Is blanching necessary prior to freezing asparagus?


Q. Do you have to blanch asparagus before u freeze it or can you just cut it up and freeze


A. Blanching is a brief heat treatment that destroys enzymes found in fruits and vegetables.  The process is recommended to maintain the quality, texture, and flavor during frozen storage.  For best results, blanch asparagus prior to freezing.
