Do the health benefits of eating fruits and veggies decrease if consumed at one sitting, ie: blended in a smoothie (green smoothie)Would the absorption of certain nutrients decrease – calcium?

The time of day that you eat food or the order that you eat your food has no impact on how it is metabolized.  In fact, some foods are actually absorbed better in the presence of other foods.  For example, the vitamin C in citrus fruit helps absorb the iron from other foods, like meats, vegetables, and grains, but the foods need to be eaten together.  For example, oranges eaten with iron fortified cereal enhances iron absorption from the cereal. Calcium is best absorbed in the presence of vitamin D, therefore, dairy products are often supplemented with vitamin D to aide in the absorption. Enjoy a variety of colors and forms of fruits and vegetables prepared in healthy ways throughout the day for the best combination of vitamins, minerals, and beneficial compounds.
