Ask the Expert Archive

does an apple that was grown 100 years ago have the same nutritional value as a apple grown today?

It is difficult to say. We have no way of knowing what the nutritional value of an apple was 100 years ago since methods of analysis that are available today were not available then.  Many factors affect nutritional value including environmental conditions such as weather, storage conditions, and even the variety of the fruit.
