What fruits are okay to eat for someone with type 2 diabetes?

Q.I am a diabetic patient since 2000, till 2009 I manage without any medicine. Food control and one hour walking every day almost. Now I am taking Glucophage tablets two time. I am taking medical check-up every three month my question is about fruits I got information all fruit I cannot eat only few fruits like papaya guva please advice me which fruits I can eat.

A. Typically, all fruits can be worked into a meal plan for diabetes, but since they do contain carbohydrates, the portions need to be controlled. Blood sugar responses to different foods vary for everyone and are affected by factors such as medications for diabetes, composition of the meal, time of day and activity. The fiber in whole fruit may help slow the response to the natural sugar that is in the fruit, but it can be very individual. The American Diabetes Association has some resources for meal planning. However, I strongly suggest that you consult a registered dietitian or certified diabetes educator who can help design an appropriate meal plan based on your medical profile, and teaches how to monitor and manage blood sugars. Your physician may be able to recommend someone, or you can find a registered dietitian at
