Are grain and vegetable carbs counted the same for a diabetic diet?

Q. When you are a diabetic is a grain carb and a veg carb all counted the same when figuring insulin to carb ratio?

A. Yes, all carbs are counted the same. Typically grains and starchy vegetables (potatoes, corn, etc.) have similar carb counts. Vegetables that are not considered starchy have fewer carbs (broccoli, onion, etc.). However, diabetic diets are often tailored for each individual. If you have concerns about your diet, it is probably best to work with a dietitian or a certified diabetes educator in your area. For more information check or
