The great thing about fruits and vegetables is that they are all good for you – in proper quantities in the diet. They contain various vitamins and minerals, as well as fiber. Vitamin A, iron, and folate are important to consume during pregnancy. Dark leafy greens are a great source of these nutrients. Vitamin C is also important in absorbing iron, and it is found in many fruits and vegetables. Try to consume a variety of fruits and vegetables during your pregnancy – fresh, cooked, canned, frozen, dried, or 100% juice! Just be sure that you’re eating proper portions. A serving of fruit is ½ cup, 1 medium piece of fruit, or ¼ cup of dried fruit. A serving of juice is 1/2 cup (4 ounces) of 100% fruit or vegetable juice, 1 cup of leafy vegetables, or ½ cup of cooked or raw vegetables.
