In the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, the recommendation for intake of fruits and vegetables for adult women who are maintaining their weight and are moderately active (about 30-60 minutes of activity/day) is about 4.5-5 cups total per day.  A general guideline is about 1.5-2 cups of fruit/day, and 2.5-3.5 cups of vegetables/day to make the total.  In general, fruits do have a few more calorie than vegetables; however, they provide fewer calories than many other foods.  Your calorie intake from fruit should be considered within the context of your total dietary intake, both in terms of calorie intake and variety of foods needed to meet nutritional requirements while losing weight.  Monitoring portion sizes and calorie intake would enable you to determine if your fruit intake is contributing extra calories that would prevent weight loss.  A dietitian can help you determine your nutritional and calorie requirements for weight loss and weight maintenance, and provide guidance on appropriate portion sizes, meal plans, and the amount of recommended calories from various foods.
