I am trying to understand how much fruit and veges to eat a day. I realize we should have 2 serves of fruit and 4-5 of veges. Can you please clarify if eating 1 large carrot is equivalent to 1 or 2 serves. Also, if I have a cereal bowl of a mixed salad would that be equivalent to my daily intake of veges? I eat alot of fruit, but am trying to eat more vegetables instead and trying to figure out if I am getting enough. Thanks for your assistance.

The recommended amount of fruits and vegetables that we should eat each day has increased. Click here to see how many cups you need. One serving of most fruits and vegetables is ½ cup, so a large carrot would be about 1 cup, or 2 servings. The average cereal bowl of mixed salad is about 1 ½ cups, which counts as ¾ cup of vegetables ( 1 cup of leafy vegetables counts as ½ cup- there is a lot of air between the leaves).
