I am wonderng do navy beans, kidney beans etc etc count as a vegetable

Yes, in fact, they count as both a vegetable serving as well as a protein serving in the food group categories. All types of beans offer a great source of nutrients such as folic acid, iron, and magnesium as well as protein and fiber.
