Ellagic acid, a phytonutrient, is found in berries and red grapes.  There is some evidence that suggests that it is associated with a decreasing risk for some cancers  There are numerous other phytochemicals that have also been associated with a decreased risk of certain cancers as well as other chronic diseases.  There is still much that we don’t know.  It is recommended to eat a variety of different fruits and vegetables in order to obtain the health benefits associated with them.  You can find out more about ellagic acid and other phytonutrients in our Phytochemical Information Center.
