I have found it more expensive to purchase and serve fresh fruits and veggies. I know it is important to serve my family these foods I also need to heat our home. Any ideas on how to inexpensively serve 5Aday?

One of the great things about fruits and veggies is that all forms count! Fresh fruits and veggies as well as frozen, canned, dried and 100% juice all count towards your fruit and veggie intake.

One way to cut costs is to make sure that you eat all that you buy. If you find that you are not eating all the fresh fruits and veggies you purchase before they spoil, consider purchasing fresh fruits and veggies for the beginning of the week then stocking up on frozen, canned, dried and 100% juice items for the remainder of the week.  Look for grocer’s specials such as two for one deals on frozen, canned, dried and 100% juice products.  Buy these items in bulk when prices are lower, then you can purchase fresh fruits and veggies to eat immediately.  Also visit a farmer’s market for seasonal specials.
