I was told by a manager of a fruit market that a watermelon cut in half with saran wrap over it is ok to be stored outside. You can refrigerate to help prevent bacteria but if you wash the melon good & the knife the melon does not need refrigerated after being cut in half. Is this true?

Storing a melon outside the refrigerator after cutting is not unsafe for up to two hours..  In hot weather, it is probably best to keep the melon chilled. It will be very refreshing too.
