Can You Recommend Good Food Choices and Recipes to Manage High Blood Pressure?

Q. I’m not a very good cook. I have high blood pressure on several meds. Food takes bad. Only eating fruits , veggies and fish. I need help
A. It sounds like you are making good food choices to manage your blood pressure.  All fruits and veggies can help lower high blood pressure due to the presence of potassium found naturally in all produce. Potassium helps regulate blood pressure by enabling the body to excrete excess sodium through urine.
The Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet is a good model to follow since fruits and vegetables are a large component of the diet focused on reducing calories, reducing sodium, and increasing fiber and potassium intake. Check out our meal planning and fruit & veggie recipe sections and remember to fill half your plate with fruits and veggies at every meal to meet your daily recommendation.
