Is it true that by the time we get our fruit & veggies from the market, most of the nutritional value has been depleted because it is picked unripened and stored in warehouses?

No, absolutely not true! When fruits and veggies are picked they do begin to lose a small amount of vitamins and minerals but it is a negligible amount. The first choice is to buy fruits and veggies as soon after harvest as you can. Most produce in your supermarket is fresh from the field in just a matter of a few days. Simply look for those that are still fresh and not wilted or decayed.  Also, canned or frozen fruits and vegetables are canned/frozen from the field, generally within a day of harvest.
