Is there a way to soften very firm peaches?

Q. Is there a way to soften very firm peaches?

A. Yes, hard peaches soften or ripen from the natural release of ethylene gas. Placing peaches in a paper bag or perforated plastic bag will actually enhance the process. Once ripe, you can then place them in the refrigerator to slow the ripening process. Eat within 1 to 2 days.  Peaches are bountiful mid to late summer.  Take a look at our Fruit & Veggie Recipe Database and end-of-summer recipes ideas for other peachy treats.
