What are some ways to help achieve and maintain a healthy blood pressure?

Q. Hi Dr Elizabeth. Please assist if possible. My dad is 78 and his blood pressure was 180/80. With medication it dropped to 102/80. His doctor adjusted meds and it went up slowly but now it’s back to 108. What home remedies/food can we use to ensure his blood pressure is stable? Many thanks, Nita

A. High blood pressure can be very serious for one’s health. A well balanced diet low in sodium and high in fruits and vegetables can help. A healthy lifestyle is important to achieve and maintain normal blood pressure levels. This means exercise, water, rest and maintaining a healthy weight are needed. Work with a registered dietitian and your father’s doctor in your area to create a plan that will help him get healthier.
