What are flavorful alternatives to salt?

Q. My question is what fruit and veggie is best for your heart and what salt is best to use in seasoning your food?

A. All fruits (and vegetables) are equally as good for you! While they vary in nutrient content, they all provide vitamins, minerals and fiber which are essential for a healthy heart. It’s good to eat a variety of them to assure you’re getting all of the various nutrients that each provides. There are over 200+ varieties of fruits and vegetables, so enjoy them all!

Seasoning foods can be tricky, but sodium in any form of salt (e.g. sea salt, table salt, etc.) is associated with high blood pressure. At least one brand of salt replaces some of the sodium chloride with potassium chloride, which is a better alternative. Better yet, try using fresh herbs, lemons, or salt-free seasonings such as garlic and onion powder to keep flavor and protect your heart. Check out our nutritious recipes for ideas.
