What does a serving mean?

A serving is a specific amount of food that is referenced for the purpose of providing a recommendation or providing nutrition information. For instance, one serving of cooked veggies is ½ cup. On a food label, nutrition information is given for a specific amount of food, or a serving. A portion, on the other hand, is the amount of food that is served to a person, or the amount of food a person takes. A portion of veggies could be 1 cup, which would be equal to 2 servings of veggies.
