What is the timeline that it takes from freshly picking the bananas until they reach the store for the consumer to purchase?

Bananas are grown only in tropical areas.  Mature bananas are picked while still green and shipped by boat to their destination. Carefully refrigerated at 56°F during shipping, they can remain green for up to 3 weeks during the transportation process, and then they are warmed up in special ripening rooms and sent out to the consumer. How long it takes to get from the field to the consumer depends where the bananas are coming from and where they are going.
