When is an eggplant ready to harvest?

Q. How does one tell when an egg plant is ready for harvesting?

A. The exterior and size of the eggplant are guides for best harvesting. Eggplants should be heavy for their size, firm, and the skin should be glossy and thin. Note that eggplants grown in home gardens may not get as big as the ones you find in the store.
