Babies are growing at a very rapid pace (I am sure you can tell this from how quickly their shoe size and clothes sizes change). Therefore, their metabolism is much faster. Babies tend to eat a lot of smaller meals as well so they present an illusion of actually eating more. Due to their metabolism their body becomes hungrier, faster than older adults.
The growth stage is a vital time for consuming a sufficient amount of vitamins and minerals. Fruits and vegetables contain many of these essential nutrients.
